Join Columbus EMP for a “Monumental” February! We’ll be attending two events this month focusing on the men and women behind the Monuments Men.

Who were the Monuments Men? They were a group of dedicated museum professionals who joined the war effort during WWII to document, protect and recover priceless art, historical artifacts and buildings from the destruction of war and theft by the Nazis. Learn more about the Monuments Men and the new film, The Monuments Men here.

The Monuments Men Film Screening

This Thursday, February 13, the EMP’s will be heading to Easton AMC’s CinemaSuites for the 7:15pm viewing of the new film, The Monuments Men. We’ll meet in the lobby at 6:45. Tickets are $12 each (all food/drinks are sold separately). (Note – the CinemaSuites theaters are for patrons 21 years of age and older). Let us know if you’ll be joining us by emailing cbusempprograms@gmail.com! Watch the official trailer here!

The Monuments Men Director’s Talk

Next Thursday, February 20, we will learn more about the book behind the film at the Columbus Museum of Art‘s February book club. The February 20 meet-up will run from 7-8:30 p.m. and will cover the book The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History by Robert M. Edsel. This event is free for CMA members, and only $5 for non-members. Joining us at CMA for the February 20 book club? Let us know at cbusempprograms@gmail.com.

The Monuments Men Foundation for the Preservation of Art is working to honor the men and women who served and to continue their work of finding art and cultural artifacts that are still missing from World War II. They are also creating The Monuments Men Experience, an exhibit which will be on permanent display at the The National World War II Museum in New Orleans.

Want to read the book before/after the film? The Monuments Men by Robert M. Edsel is available for download on iTunes and Amazon!
